Do this Instead of Spring Seasonal Decorating – Spring Decor Ideas to Refresh Your Home Without Overwhelm

Updated: May 30, 2024

Are you depressed by your home, but daunted by the task of seasonal decorating? Me too friends, and there has got to be another way.

We all crave a seasonal vibe. For me, it's reading pastel-colored books on a manicured lawn while birds sing and I nibble on a crumbly scone with my people…but your list of spring decor ideas and overall vibe might be different.

But we try fill these desires with party planning, buying artificial blooms, or painting the front door a pastel green (I have literally done this!).

But…the artificial blooms get dusty, the green looks horrid come Fall, and we have to hibernate after the party to recover until “maybe again next year."

So where do we find the seasonal serotonin cocoon we want to be wrapped in at the end of a long day or week?

Spring is a season of renewal, a time when nature unfurls from winter slumber and life bursts forth with vibrant color and scent. It's a season when our bodies find an urge to refresh our homes, to shake off the winter dust, and invite in lightness and life.

But let's be honest, seasonal decorating can often feel like a daunting task, especially for those of us with busy schedules and limited budgets. Fear not though friends, I've been puzzling on this pickle for years, and found something that works for me. Now I'm sharing with you.

So grab a lemonade or herb-infused tea, cozy up, and let's dive in...

Step 1 – Find Your Spring Vibe, Start with Spring Decor Inspiration

I use a Pinterest Pin Board, but magazines and a glue stick are classic for a reason

The first step to refreshing your home for spring is to set the mood. My favorite method is creating a Pinterest Vibe Board. Search for terms like spring aesthetic, spring vibe, creative spring hobbies, refreshing drinks, and spring festivals.

Choose images that evoke the kinds of emotions you want to feel in spring, and scroll past any that make you feel guilty or stressed. A good rule of thumb is to only save those images you like to enough to make your home screen screen saver.

While you're welcome to pin images to inspire particular activities or recipes, focus on highly edited and curated images that evoke a strong positive emotion. Even the filters on photos, materials used in the objects depicted, colors, and movement will help inform any purchases or planning you choose to do.

Whether it's a pastel color palette, blooming florals, or outdoor gatherings bathed in sunlight, let these visuals serve as your inspiration as you embark on a few spring home decor ideas and additons.

Step 2 – Spend on Beautiful Seasonal Hobby Supplies instead of Decor and Throw Pillows

Now that you've set the tone with your vibe board, it's time to bring some spring magic and spring decor ideas into your home, through both the visual and the sensory. By way of saving time and money and keeping things clutter free, consider incorporating seasonal elements into activities you already do and love.

Add a few hobby supplies to your shopping list that you want to have handy this season. Think watercolor paints for impromptu art sessions, a bundle of fresh herbs for culinary experiments, or a stack of new books for leisurely reading in the sunshine. And don't forget about edible/drinkable things that can also serve as decor. A bowl of lemons or a pitcher of cucumber-infused water not only adds a pop of color to your kitchen but also delights the senses with a refreshing scent.

Try to invest in beautiful and quality supplies you can pull out year after year and season to season. Avoid any platters or signs that say "April Showers bring May flowers," and you should be good to go.

Step 3 – Consider Switching Out Your Wall Art, because Every Rule of Spring Decor Ideas Has an Exception

Every rule has an exception, and my "No Seasonal Decor" rule ends with wall art. Because art is relatively compact and can be removed from a frame and rolled up until the next season, I find it a very clutter free and space saving option.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to update the look and feel of your home for spring is by refreshing your wall art. Whether you switch out existing pieces or thrift for new ones, choose artwork you love, that nods to the season, and is correctly size to your wall. Think botanical prints, nature-inspired illustrations, or abstract paintings in bright colors that reflect the spring vibe you see in your pin board.

And don't limit yourself to store-bought art—personal photos that capture your favorite springtime moments are also a great option. I love and highly recommend printable oil painting files from Etsy. Here's one I'm crushing on this season:

Step 4 – Don't Do It All in One Year, Slow and Steady Wins the Race of Spring Decor Ideas and Decorating

Remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is the perfect springtime home. Take it slow, my friend. Once you have a plan in place, you'll find that the process becomes much more manageable. Don't feel pressured to do it all at once—remember, it's a journey, not a race. In the first year or two, you're still figuring things out, and that's okay. Besides, trying to do it all at once can quickly become expensive. So take a deep breath, trust the process, and enjoy the journey of transforming your home into a springtime sanctuary. Let the spring decor ideas come when true inspiration strikes.

Focus on hobby supplies that welcome the vibe from your pin board. Try when possible to purchase high quality and beautiful heirloom quality items. And buy a few things a year. Next year, you can add more layers.

QUESTION AND ANSWER:

Q: How can I refresh my home for spring without breaking the bank?

A: Refreshing your home for spring doesn't have to break the bank. Start by creating an inspiring vibe board to set the mood, then incorporate seasonal elements into everyday items you already use and love. Embrace the power of wall art to update your space, and remember to take it slow and steady—it's a journey, not a race.

Q: What are some budget-friendly ways to update my wall art for spring?

A: Updating your wall art for spring doesn't have to cost a fortune. Consider DIYing your own artwork using materials you already have on hand, like paint or collage materials. Alternatively, shop secondhand for affordable prints or frames, or swap art with friends for a budget-friendly refresh. My favorite is purchasing printable oil painting or other art prints from Etsy and having them printed at Fedex, UPS, or your local bulk print shop. Cost effective and space saving!

Q: How can I bring more natural elements into my home for spring?

A: Bringing more natural elements into your home for spring is easy and affordable. Try incorporating potted plants or fresh flowers into your decor, or display natural materials like seashells, driftwood, or pebbles as decorative accents. You can also embrace natural textures like rattan, jute, or linen in your furniture and accessories.

Q: Any tips for creating a cohesive springtime color palette in my home?

A: Creating a cohesive springtime color palette in your home is all about embracing light, airy hues that evoke the freshness of the season. Be sure to create a Vibe Board (check out the link for mine above). Think pastel shades like soft blues, blush pinks, and mint greens, accented with pops of vibrant color like sunny yellows or leafy greens. Don't be afraid to mix and match colors and patterns to create a dynamic and layered look. But if your spring vibe isn't pastel, follow whatever you're seeing in your Pinterest Vibe Board.

Q: How can I make my home feel elevated and inviting for springtime gatherings?

A: Making your home feel more inviting and cozy for springtime gatherings is all about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Start by decluttering and organizing your space to make room for guests, then add soft textiles like throw blankets and cushions to create a cozy ambiance. Incorporate ambient lighting with candles or string lights, and don't forget to set out some refreshments to keep your guests comfortable and content.
